Guest Guest Posted May 17, 2010 Sam,Strange, it doesn't look like a dog? I think the thing by his or her nose is another horse? The nose looks too close to the corner. It looks crowded. Good color and nicely out of focus background. Good catch light and sharpness. I don't know enough about horses to tell if it is a nice looking horse. I still think portraits are certain kinds of pictures of people, but I'm old. I guess you can call a picture of anything a portrait if you want to.Nice shot,Mark Link to comment
sambal 0 Posted May 18, 2010 Yes, Sumit & Mark, the nose is a bit too close for comfort to the backside of another horse. As this photo is no studio shot, both animals all the time were moving about & therefore, this image could not be optimally composed. Cheers, Sam. Link to comment
sambal 0 Posted May 18, 2010 Mark, there is no category in PN for photos of the heads of animals. You could present a horse its head under 'nature' but it's the kind of animal I do not really consider better characterised under "nature" than a human whose head has been portrayed.Or 'travel' when it's in front of a cart or with a rider on his road from a to b. Or 'event' or 'documetary' when it is shown to do something like jumping a fence.Of course, it's a bit eery to suddenly see a horse's head, some monkey's grin, or a growling lion in between a series showing the lovely faces / portraits of members of our species of H. sapiens of both sexes at all ages & in lots of shapes. Thanks very much for your thoughtful critique & kind comments.Cheers, Sam.
