Hi Carsten, I saw you have a new toy - DP2. Is there a big difference to the DP1? I thought the only difference is 24.2mm F2.8 lens instead 16,6mm F4.0 ?

 

You have also wide-angle view with the DP2. Very nice the blue sky, the white cloud and droughty ground.

 

Amazing cloud and I love the great expanse of ever-darkening sky that fills the frame. Lovely image!

Hey, Stephen, it is interesting that you should comment right below me because when I saw this, I immediately thought of your photo of a thunderhead over square butte in Montana. I haven't gone back to look at that image again so don't know how much similarity there actually is, but that was my first association.

Your compositional decisions emphasize the desolation and openness of this location. Seldom the best time of day to take photos this mid day exposure works primarily because you've minimized the foreground land mass and were superbly successful in your polarizing technique. The brilliant white of the clouds works well with the deep blue of the sky. The sky is so dark at the top I almost feel like I should see some stars there. Again, as with many of your other panoramas, I'd love to see some very large prints. I think they'd look great on a gallery wall. Best, LM.

Peter, yes it was only for a few minutes then this cloud disintegrated. I would say, with large format equipment I would have missed the shot. When you say you thought it was film, this is a great compliment ! There is something special in this Foveon sensor, my 5D collects dust...

 

Maria, it was kind of street photography in the desert :-)

 

Elke, the main difference is the lens, yes. Goes for a "normal" lens, nice bokeh and at least as sharp as the DP! lens. And it is faster due to the newer processor, but this sucks more power, battery holds only for about 80- 100 shots.

 

Ian and Stephen, the sky is possibly over the top for one or another - the blue is polarizer plus a multiply blended layer mask. Yes the Thunderhead over Square Butte, Montana cloud is quite similar, cloud freaks call it "cumulus congestus". Strange that water droplets in the air can be so beautiful...

 

Len, I rented a car to get rid of remnants of civilization. But strange enough, this view was already from the suburb of Costa calma, next to a Kindergarten, the children watched me curiously :-) Detail is surprising, yes. Not many pixels, but real. Adequately upsized, you can make very large prints. See the 100 percent crop from the upsized file (2x)

 

James, for not to miss the right exposure, I made a bracket exposure series. The Foveon is a bit tricky, you get the best results with dead-on exposure and custom white balance (this was with grey card)

 

Sandris, Jandia is on my list when I come again to Fuerteventura. Then I will rent a Jeep...

Me too for all the other comments, this is a knockout. Ir wasn't until I viewed large that it came to life. This is one of those rare occasions where the polariser effect works well on a wide wide angle lense.

Jeff, thank you! Yes this is not so impressive in small size, since the "small" wind engines convey a sense of dimensions only in large.

Must be seen large. Cloud base is wonderful transition between earth and sky; dark sky compliments the lighter earth tones beautifully. I have a wall waiting for this.

Martin, thanks for stopping by ! The title is a hommage to Salvador Dali, especially his his surreal painting "Rosa meditativa" :-)

I'm glad to see this one again here. I like a lot the way you have treated these" plume" clouds ...As usual ,you see clouds and it turns to a creative photograph.I love the light and as I wrote you the color palette is special , as earth color are "reflected" on the sky. The clouds look so low nearly touching earth....I like the dark blue negative space.

You have many fine shots in your portfolio, and this one are very good. The dark vignettering makes me focus on the beautiful cloud. Colorscale fits together. Very good impact on viewers. Regards
