Mother Working

Rajat, it is a documentary series of the working women situation in India. The way they seat and work looks hard and tiring, and still the colors of clothes the jewelry show some nice colors of India as well. It is an everyday reality for the family bread , This one is the better exposed from the others. I like the triangle formed by the woman's body, and the woman in the BG.

Thank you, Pnina. Squatting comes easy to earthy people. It is the way they do their ablutions, cook their food, gather to chat with others; the posture they adopt when they have to wait (something they have to do often). The manner of seating of the woman in blue would be considered 'uncouth' by our standards but is very practical for this woman as she works on the bedspread. About this woman, note the pride she takes in her appearance. She lives in a one-room hovel (the photograph 'at their doorstep'). This photograph was taken on 25Feb, the other one on 13Feb. In both she is wearing the same blue saree. Perhaps it is the only good one she has. She is a proud woman with spirit.

Thank you, Mario. It was a difficult shot. I was lying down on my stomach on the ground, camera angled up through a narrow doorway (I was in an adjoining room). I wanted both feet but it wasn't possible unless I asked her to move. And that was something I was not ready to do just to get a 'better' shot.

To me daily hard work is a self imposed punishment for miss perceptions of past lifes of mistakes and suffering. We can't change others but we must become creative, evolving to constant love and servise that can provide pleasure and confort, as by taken images and travel around the world doing it.
