The VILLAGE of Altos De Chavon...is known as an architectural wonder, a

16th centruy replica of a Mediterranean village. The village perched high

above the Chavon River, designed by Dominican architect Jose Antonio

Caro, & created by Italian Master Designer and Cinematographer

RobertoCoppa....began as an extraordinary cultural undertaking in 1976.

Perched upon a verdant plateau, 200 miles east of Santo Domingo - it

was a destination in 1983 that I'd read about and yearned to 'discover'.

While on Vacation at a Club Med in Punta Cana in 1983, I longed to visit

this place...little did I know that years later, (in 2006, a second marriage

later).....I would be so fortunate to visit this 'breathtaking place'....search it

out on the Internet...and you'll discover a fascinating destination - dedicated

to the Island's culture....artisans the world over and a

Photographer's 'Heaven' -- even if I did not know how to use my Dad's

Olympus E-1, I got a few good half decent shots.....thankyou for your

patience, Gail

What an amazing structure. The rocks and stones are facinating, such interesting textures and colours. I like the leaves at the top of frame, nice touch. I would love to be there with my camera. Thanks for the story. All the best.

This looks like a place everyone would like to visit. i am amazed to see the kind of details you could bring out in the pic. Partially clouded sky has added punch to it. Excellent.

Beautiful vertical composition, Gail. The quantity of rocks and stones is amazing. I like the textures and colors in the whole structure. Excellent photograph. Best regards!

thank you ..each one for your very encouraging comments...I do have to admit and give credit to a fellow 'netter' Greg Pichnig.....who as I've mentioned in my Portfolio Page that he 'pestered me unmercifully' to get my photos on PN....and every so often, would sit and help me ....teaching me about how to adjust color in the histogram....so many little things that I did not understand. There is so much I would not know how to do today if it were not for Greg. Talk about 'patience'!! We got back from this trip and immediately he was requesting to see my photos......he may never kow how much I appreciate his continual support on my 'journey'....also my Dad...whom has tried to help me very much with my Photos....and still does. And then there are 'all of you' who 'visit' and encourage me on..........thanks again, with much appreciation, Gail

Dear Gail,

You have, once again, produced a wonderful photo of an amazing place. Your natural talent, along with some help from your friends, is moving you steadily into the ranks of Master Photographers!

You thorough description of the location and its history is most welcome, and sorely lacking on many photos that are posted here and elsewhere.

I often miss having a photo companion like you here in the Philippines. I keep hoping though...

As always, I will be looking for your next photographic gem...

Your friend,

Dave

Thankyou so much Dave for your input of kind and encouraging words...it's amazing yet a bit of a 'let down' when you figure we can chat and uplift each other when we live so far away...can you imagine if we all lived a bit closer and had a 'Photog Club'??? My Dad's club goes on 'excursions' to take pics.....he enjoys it very much. Any of these photos is a 'miracle' as I've said ...did not know how to use the camera at all....There are some imates from Altos that didn't turn out so good...a few I can rescue, and many I just 'delete'.........Once again, your compliments are 'well heard' and so appreciated...........cheers, Gail
