amalsircar 2 Posted June 11, 2009 Umair Bhai, beautiful image but but tinged with sadness.. A look at their faces shows no trace of joy, only suffering. Unfortunately, this is life for majority of the people in Pakistan & India. Link to comment
awaraagard 0 Posted June 12, 2009 that particular absence of joy comes from the realization that your life's never gonna chang for better. adolescents begin to realize that when they go out and confront life! Regards! Link to comment

Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted July 20, 2009 Beautiful shot, as usual, Umair. And, no, I do not think their lives are sad or will never improve. One has to be careful what one says about these things. The truth is that how one defines happiness or sadness is often the result of how one perceives the reality around her. I, too, came from a small village in Nigeria, and carried water on my head all the way through elementary and high school. From where I am now, it is difficult to appreciate me saying this, but what I see in the picture is purity and dignity. Yes, they do not look happy, but I work in San Francisco now, and as I type this, it is 8:30 on a Monday morning, and I got off the bus half an hour ago, and all the way to my office, I saw faces that looked ten times as miserable as these beautiful young girls. This, of course, is not to say that they should be jumping for joy if their lot is hard, just offering a little perspective that the grass sometimes only LOOKS greener on the other side of the fence, that when you finally make it over there, you quickly discover that is is merely artificial turf.
