I took quite a few photographs on this particular evening, but somehow

none of them looked quite right to me, I'd appreciate any comments

Well, it certainly not a Happy image & i doubt if anybody is going to exclaim, OH, isn't this nice". It is probably a very accurate slice of life & that yellowish sky is not going to cheer anybody up.I would class it as an interesting documentary & accomplishing it's purpose to kindle the viewers interest jn what kind of a place this is. I like images like this as they give you many things to ponder on, you immediately think, what kind of place is this & the photograph has accomplished its purpose.Best Regards from a muddy Flat-Ross

You are quite right my friend, it isn't going to win any prizes for being the most pretty picture, particularly as it was taken with the tide out!!

It took another 4 years for me to get a good shot of this location, and when I did, I had a 3ff x 2 ft print made and it today hangs over my fireplace.

The image I'm referring to of course is "Sunday Rest" and can be found somewhere in my landscape portfolio.

The location is a wonderful place on the edge of an estuary marsh. There are countless abandoned old boats, as well as ones that are still in use dotted around the mud and grass banks.

This place produces some great photographs, but they are rare because the high tide and soft light combinations are difficult to predict.

I like to keep old shots like this on my portfolio, simply as a reference to progress.

Many Thanks for taking a look Ross, its gratifying to know that you stop and contemplate the less spectacular shots too : - )

Best Regards

Alf

PS Aplogies to JIM for not responding, back in the time I posted this, I was never sure when someone had commented.

Have visited Muddy Moods a few times & was remiss in my response.True, it is not a pretty picture but it is a compelling image.Probably due to my age,it is a a perfect metaphor that as every day must end so must our time on this old planet & I promise you never to mention age again,it was just too good a metaphor to pass up. Anyway your image projects a feeling of stillness & quietness & enjoy sitting & feel these attributes come to me. So expect lots of visits.Technically, the boats are positioned perfectly & could not be better & your capture of the late evening tones is up to your high standards . As I said previously,it is a compelling image & surprised it has not received a larger reception.Best Regards-Ross

I don't think you were too far off the mark the first time. But I suppose it does retain some mood, some character, and probably more for me because I know the location so well.

I can't remember if how I processed this image, but I suspect it was with some very basic "Picasa" tools, and I'm fairly certain that back in the days when I took this shot, I was only shooting in Jpeg mode.

"Composition" is something that has always come together for me, and I like the seperation of  the boats in this shot.

But If I was confronted with this scene again today, I would walk away and come back when the tide was in and the place looks so much better.

In fact, I have been back and taken some half decent shots at sunset with the tide in.

I don't consider them good enough to post, but I will email a couple of them to you, and see what you think.

Thanks for the return visit Ross, its always great to get your views.

Best Regards

Alf
