Not Here 93 Posted June 8, 2009 Dick... An excellent shot of this Loon. A great POV, looks like you're in the water with him... Mike Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted June 8, 2009 Thank you, Mike! I was in the water...in a kayak, when this loon surfaced near me. I couldn't see the mayflies until I looked at the shot on the camera. Even then, I didn't know what they were until we got home and I put this on the computer. It was our first weekend at our cabin on Squaw Lake. It never got warmer than 50 degrees. I hope this is the beginning of a productive Summer. Have a great night! Dick Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted June 9, 2009 Well its good they are mayflies instead of mosquitoes. we just had a common loon in breeding plumage in Bolsa chica, which is highly unusual for this area. Link to comment
ChristopherSchlaf 0 Posted August 24, 2009 Not sure how I missed this. This is one bird Ive never seen let alone get a shot of.Really like the perspective. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted August 25, 2009 Thanks for the comment, Chris! These are beautiful and unusual birds. They can dive over 100 feet and swim up to 200 yards underwater. It's best to just be near when they surface and be ready with the camera. The Nikkor 500 mm f4 AFS VR would make this task much quicker than my slow 80-400 mm VR. But, that's looking at an extra $7000 for a lens. You should come to my lake for a photo trip...make it a UP family vacation. Have a good night! Dick Link to comment
