Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted June 5, 2009 This old structure in Belfast, Maine intrigued me as mirroring the laid-back and less cluttered way of life in this remote down-East town. Thanks for taking your time to comment. Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted June 5, 2009 Larry...there is some lens distortion that is "warping" the pic a bit, and as well...it needs some straightening...as the verticals are slanting. I toyed with fixing it a bit..but because you framing has already taken off the top of the letters at top rightl...straightening it would have meant loosing even more of the letters. I'd suggest giving yourself a bit more room in the frame to allow for straightening photos...especially architectural shots such as this. without some additional room around the building, personally...i'd just crop out the sides, as they offer nothing of value...unless you value power lines! lol (the photographer's enemy worldwide). one last thing...i would try to leave equal amounts of space on both sides of the building to give it a more balanced look. Hope this helps! jg. Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted June 5, 2009 Thanks, John. You are correct. There was quite a bit of distortion because of the tight space I had for shooting and the fact that the building is on a steep hill. I corrected the vertical distortion using the lens correction filter under lens distortion. I have fixed the vertical slant some more since you commented. Do you think it's better? I was intrigued by the interesting building and tried to make the best of it with my 12-24mm wide angle lens. Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted June 5, 2009 Larry...yes i do think it looks lots better! it's a very interesting old building...and i fully understand how natural restrictions on our shooting just can't be avoided at times. thanks for responding! happy shooting....jg Link to comment
alan_green3 0 Posted June 6, 2009 This photo has a historic feel to it and I like the reflection of the buildings opposite. I think it would benefit from slight rotation and re-cropping to get verticals square, lose the power lines and bricks (bottom) but include the top of the lettering . Link to comment
