I was at a state park, where wildlife is protected, walking down this dirt road which runs next to a canal. There are tall trees on both sides of the road that gave me enough hiding. There was a deer on the other side of the canal grazing on the green grass next to the water. I was shooting it with an old manual 500mm lens on a tripod. The road was behind me. I felt eyes staring at me and turned around. There she was with her two chicks, strolling right behind me two meters away, way too close for that lens. Once I recovered I scrambled to focus as she walked away with an attitude, tall (about 1.30m/4feet) and gracefull. This chick never left her side. The other one was a bit crazy. I shot maybe twenty frames. I love this one. I know it is soft, out of focus, the feet are cut off. It doesn't matter, it was a rare moment for me that I will never forget! A second after this shot she took a right into the trees. A moment later she was across the canal and soon disappeared in the tall grass.

The idea is good and the work sympathetic, but my point of view is that the two birds are a bit fuzzy and feet are the first cut.

 

A very lovely shot! You know how to capture these special moments and even more: You know how to tell stories with your photos, the sweet as well as the bitter ones. And this is a priceless (or may I say ratingless) gift and the reason why I like to come back and visit your portfolio. It is very sympathetic that in order to shoot these photos/stories you don't need many "effects", just your fine perception and that's what photography (IMHO) is about. Thank you for sharing.

Yes, you are right, it was great anyway!

How about a little treatment and altering the bottom part?Is the result closer to what you've experienced there?

I like it very much! Your version has feet which was a very important missing element. :o)

 

Never thought about cropping it vertical... It is great, and the memory remains the same.

Thank you, it is more of a memorable moment that I cought on film (I mean, pixels) and wanted to share...

I love your attitude when it comes to certain photos....we have a connection to certain 'favorites', ones that stand out in our 'journey'......and isn't it wonderful to have these fantastic encounters.....this shot puts a smile on my face and a chuckle in my heart....congrats...I love it! sincerely, Gail
