My personal bias: If the background is going to be out of focus, I'd go with an even shallower DOF. When it's halfway between sharp and not sharp, I find that to be too distracting: the blurred portion draws the eye away from the sharp elements because I "struggle" to decipher those forms. I think this photo could have gone either way: completely sharp throughout, or a decidedly blurred background. Nevertheless, the colors are great, as is you perspective. Capitol Reef is an incredible place.
