pnital 36 Posted May 31, 2009 A well known Renaissance painter that was born in Verona ( 1528-1588), but most of his work was created in Venice. His well known painting is " The feast of the house of Levi". it is an interesting history/story that can be read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Feast_in_the_House_of_Levi Thanks for your thoughts. Landrum Kelly 64 Posted May 31, 2009 "It led to an investigation by the Roman Catholic Inquisition." --Wikipedia Well, Pnina, what can I say? Not a good time to be named "Levi," I guess. This is a very nice shot of the statue. Thanks for the larger story. --Lannie Link to comment
photis santamouris 23 Posted May 31, 2009 Could possibly have been posted "Critique only" because I see there is no room for high ratings.Interesting story to dig into. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 1, 2009 Lannie, the point of that story is ,that the painting was ordered , painted and titled as "the last supper( or meal)" of Jesus.... the inquisition thought that it is a heresy as some of the figures were drunk, and some painted as clowns and dwarfs. You know what he answered the inquisition? he said" We painters allow ourselves the liberty which is allowed to poets and insanes".....the change of the name to "Levi" really changed the story ordered by the church. It is one! only good example how far in history persecution existed Photis, I tried critique only, it not very effective. I don't mind the rating I mind a good critique. Thanks for your visit and interest.I like reading your poetry when I meet it. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted June 1, 2009 Pnina, very good perspective of the great painter. Perspective makes him come alive. He is so focused on his work . Very good exposure and tone. Thank you for sharing this image .It enabled me to view once again the works of Veronese, Titian, and Tintoretto. Your are transporting us with ease from the Age of Renaissance to present day Romeo & Juliet. Link to comment

gordonjb 10,860 Posted June 3, 2009 As a vacation photo of a statue it looks fine. The lighting is not very dramatic but the soft light does allow for good shadow detail. The entire frame looks a bit soft and the cut off elbow seems an odd decision as does the inclusion of that flat piece of right angled marble at the bottom of the photo. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 4, 2009 All you points are valid, it was photographed midday. the statue 's location is at the very end of a garden all trees around very shadowed.Taking some two more steps and there is a road with cars.... not very safe, could not photo the whole statue because of that.Uploaded it especially because of the history importance of that painter, and especially because of the well known Inquisition history/story . Thanks for taking the time. Link to comment
karolostrivizas 2 Posted June 4, 2009 The precise exposure Pnina accentuates all the difficult white/beige tones of this beautiful statue. Also the vantage contrasting green b/g and your nice view point helps a lot the presentation. ………………..PS : Many thanks for your kind comment about my POW photo. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 4, 2009 Thanks for your nice point of view, it looks that each of us has his own taste and impressions. It was my pleasure to comment again on your unusual photo that was rightfully chosen as POW. Congratulation again! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted June 4, 2009 Thanks for broadening my horizons. I'd never heard of this artist before but his story is interesting. I wouldn't have wanted to be in his shoes in front of the Inquisition judges. He dodged a bullet for sure. Can't believe, after that experience, that he defied most of their demands. You've nicely placed this statue against some darker green foliage which allows his profile to be seen clearly. As for the flat lighting, I ran this through PS and with only a click on Auto Levels managed to put enough 'snap' into the shot to please me at least. Others' mileage may vary. Always a pleasure. Best, LM. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted June 5, 2009 For taking the time, yes you have added to it. My main attraction was to the history of that painter ,which is well known, especially about the Inquisition and this special painting of his. Len,always a pleasure to see you here as well ! Link to comment
