Pretty as a picture

A very typical view of buck (antelope) in the South African bush. Their camouflage is outstanding and it is posible to pass large herds without actually seeing them in this type of habitat.

I expect he heard you long before you spotted him. The size of those ears! And, "I can almost see those nostrils moving to smell the air!"

All you say is true my friend. Animals in the wild "choose" to be seen up close, else they can take a few steps and disappear in the bush.
