ianbattersby 0 Posted May 26, 2009 Jim, I love the abstract nature of this, it has me totally memorized! The offset composition on the black background, with the hallucinogenic type colours with moments of reality, is just great! Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted May 27, 2009 I have to be honest and say I don't know if I like this or not... The reason for commenting is because I find it interesting and I want to see if it grows on me. So far not, but I have a funny feeling I will return to this image. Link to comment
JPPhoto1664880217 2 Posted May 29, 2009 I would like to hear what you decide. In particular, does the image evoke an emotional response? If so, what? Jim Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted May 29, 2009 I have decided I like it... or should I say most of it. I realise what was bothering me about this but couldn't place my finger on it earlier. What I like about it is the apparent symmetry. Obviously it isn't but the head tilt allows it to act as if it could be if it wasn't tilted. There is a desire in the model to look out and 'ask' what's going on. I find this fascinating. I may be talking fluff but it is my interpratation. What I don't like is the pubic bush. It seems out of context and out of place. There also seems to be an 'error' in the skin coloured breast area. I am not sure if there are 2 'boxes' or one but the if it is one, then the top right is missing. If it is two, then maybe it shouldn't be there. Also the dark line on the right is a distraction. Perhaps centralising the skin coloured breasts, removing the 'error' and removing the pubic overlay would have made this wonderful. A minor adjustment to the head such that there is nothing sticking out beyond the shoulder on the layer below. I think liking something or disliking something enough to write about it means there must be some level of emotional response but I do not think there is much more than that if I am honest. JPPhoto1664880217 2 Posted May 31, 2009 You are correct about the “error’, the wrong version was posted. Note that it took 24 hours for the new image to appear after it was uploaded. Note that all skin color areas are from the same image and are in their actual positions. From my perspective, the pubic area gives the image more visual tension. My intent on images of this type is much more form than narrative, so the image is much more about lines and colors than a standard nude. The emotional content is, as you observed, in her facial expression. Your critiques are appreciated. Jim Phelps Link to comment
