samrat 1 Posted May 26, 2009 I had to wait for a while for someone to come up the stairs...and then I had this. I could only capture a bit of him...including the glint in his spectacle lens. I toyed with the titles "guest" and "visitor" and decided that "guest" was more personal...as if someone was entering the domain of the viewer. Is he known? Or totally unknown? Thanks for your comments. Link to comment
life-in-perspective 0 Posted May 30, 2009 Let me tell you first what I like about this image- the geometric shapes of the stairs and the black rods on the wall. I also like the texture of the wall and light falling on it specially on the side, where the guest cast some shadow. The faint light on edge of the stairs is working well in making them visible, but not very loud. Now I think it would have been better if the light falling on the stairs on the right side of the guest was a little bit more to make its presence felt. And I don't know whether the guest is making impact on the composition. Again it is my opinion and I cannot of much help regarding the tech aspects. What I do is I share my visual experience- don't think that will be of much help. Best regards. Link to comment
samrat 1 Posted May 30, 2009 Thank you for your views on this photo. I had half-expected that this shot may draw some constructive criticism...personally, I like it and so was somewhat disappointed not to find any response. Hence you'll understand why I wanted to have some views on this one. I had taken four shots in all with slightly different exposures each time. During this, people kept climbing up and down and so it was a matter to timing, really. I have another shot with just a hand on the railing and with an oval-ish shadow of the approaching person on the stairs, but I did not think it had much to offer...it would be like an empty staircase. Here, the shot was taken at the instant when I felt I'll have the person just entering the frame...and left the rest to luck. But thanks once again. Much appreciated. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted May 31, 2009 Samrat, the staircase is too dark in my monitor. Thus I could not locate the person. Like Sonali, I am not an expert but i feel that you are perhaps right when you state " but I did not think it had much to offer...". I feel that this image is not up to the standard of your other images. Link to comment
samrat 1 Posted May 31, 2009 Thank you for your honest criticism. I do agree that the shot is a tad on the darker side (to put it mildly). To be truthful, I wanted it that way to an extent to get an element of mystery. You will have read my response to Sonali's critique; you'll know how I constructed/framed/timed the shot.
