ifti 0 Posted May 22, 2009 Your composition, focus and BG are all very good. Light is too harsh. Consider taking it in the morning or on an overcast day Link to comment

thadley 14 Posted May 23, 2009 Very nice capture - I like the dark background and the fact that there is no loss of highlights despite some bright light on the flower. Some guide books say that for western cultures who read from left to right that we should place the flower on the left side but if we all did that we would end up with flower images that look very similar. I like it the way you have it. Roger S's advice is to try these back-lit with a setting sun which gives a warm glow to the subject. I tried that with some dandelions recently and I like the effect. All the very best and keep up the good work. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted May 24, 2009 Thank you all for your kind comments and critiques! Ifti, I agree that this is a harsh light image. This was intentional on my part to try to capture the flower as it was brightly lit in an otherwise shadowy part of the flower garden. I'm not certain that I truly like the harsh light, so I took another view in a softer morning light. Tony, good to hear from you! I hope you are well rested. I appreciate your comments on this image. The composition just felt right to me. Best regards, Dick Link to comment
