Actually, this sunset look is courtesy of dragging the shutter, and using

two off-camera speedlights with colored gels. A quick discussion of the

lighting is in this

thread. Thanks for visiting.

Matt, I enjoyed your discussion of this image and your lighting technique very much. The final result is a pleasing warm portrait of your faithful dog. It's fun to play around with this stuff and sometimes come to the realization that you can get some truly amazing results from the equipment without hours of work. We(I mean me and others who are often impatient) just need to take the time to read and experiment like you so obviously do. That you also take the time and energy to share your experience with the rest of us is a gift...thank you!

Best regards,

Dick

you chose the wrong profession. You´d actually make a good and inspiring teacher as all those (and on other occasion a lot more) comments prove.

Thanks, all - you're very kind.

Ton: my mom was an art teacher for many years, and a patient one. It's taken me a few decades to realize how much one can personally learn in the course of explaining something - even something very modest - to someone else. It has a way of focusing the mind on the distilled-down important stuff. Mostly, of course, I just like excuses to take photos of dogs. Especially my dogs!

Mr. Laur....

A good looking dog, well-shot, and especially well-lit.  Getting a liver-colored German Shorthaired Pointer's shading is not easy.  One can even see the veins in the ears.

Well done.
