I robbed my wife's kitchen to make this photo of the bleeding heartflowers in our garden. The backdrop is a tea towel stuck into thefence and the reflector lighting the underside was a cutting board. This was shot with my Nikon macro lens mounted on my Canon body atabout f/8.

Hmmm... the more I look at this after uploading it, the more the darkshadows on the lower third of the background bother me. I suppose aflat posterboard would have worked better than a wavy tea towel.Perhaps some more postprocessing is warranted...

This shot, with the lower shadows cleaned up, was submitted to the 2009 Nebraska State Fair photography competition, where it won first place in the "Domestic Growing Flowers, Multiple Blossoms (color)" class. I'm kinda excited. I won 8 ribbons from the 21 photos I submitted, and my daughter won 3rd place in the "youth, 10 & under" class.

Congratulations, Ben! This is a lovely image wit its great hues and clean composition (i pretended the lower shadows aren't there). So the talent has percolated! A great inspiration for her. My best wishes and congratulations to her, too.

I have a similar photo as in my portofolio. We even put the same pink border around the edge. Cool!
