Wow, I really like the tones. I don't see any catch light in the eyes. Was this an outdoor without flash? The softness of the face is really good too. Nice!

Hi Kristijan,

As Dan already mentioned, you've got some very pleasing tones here and, of course, a nice pose. As for the catch lights, I can see them, although not as bright as I would have liked to.

However, my main concern here regards the position of her face within the frame. I would have left less space above her head, and more in the lower side, so to get more of her arm and torso in the frame.

Now, as I look more, I noticed her nails... Just a tiny detail, and maybe it's just me, but seeing her nails from this perspective it's kind of strange, maybe even a bit distracting. I would have preferred to have her slightly switch her wrist in order to avoid seeing her nails from the inside.

Apart these details, I think you've got a really nice capture.

Best regards!

Kristijan,

First - She really looks like a young Doris Day - Beautiful.

Sharp focus - Wonderful skin tones. Nice make-up, but watch the separation of her lashes with the mascara. Her left eye looks like there is not as much eyeliner under the eye as there is on her right eye. The shape of her nails does look a bit strange, but her hand pose is very nice. Maybe a little polish on her nails might help? Maybe a manicure?

She is nicely balanced on her right hand (not pushing her face, at all). You do not show a connection between her right forearm with her right upper arm. The question then is -- is this her hand or someone else's that she is leaning on? This is a problem that you will run into when you do a photograph this close to the subject with her hand in the picture. You are also showing her (I hope its hers) left hand going into her sweater. This should not be showing. It is possible that by leaning on her right hand she has forced her left shoulder up. It looks higher than it should.

As was said by someone else, her catch lights are not bright. They must be more pronounced if her eyes are to come alive. Your composition is a little funky. You do want to crop the top of the photograph and the right side to make the picture balanced. Your background is nicely out of focus, but the bright blue on the bottom and the yellow and red on the top draw my attention away from her. There is also some white line going into her head. There is a silver watchband or silver bracelet on her right forearm at the bottom of the photograph. This draws my attention away from her face.

When shooting a beautiful girl it is very easy to focus all your attention on her eyes, smile and expression (and other parts depending on what sort of portrait you are doing). You must force yourself to look all around her. The more details you see before you shoot, the less time you will have to spend correcting errors (if they can be corrected) after you shoot. This is making the assumption you would rather become a great photographic artist than a great Photoshop artist. I do not mean to imply there is anything wrong with becoming a great Photoshop artist.

Congratulations on a beautiful portrait. You must have a wonderful rapport with this girl. Her face has lit up looking at you.
