Melissa,

She is a pretty girl. You have focused very well on her eyes. She has good eye contact with the camera (viewer) and a pleasant expression. The composition is very good. The girl's make-up looks good.

I would prefer that the catch lights didn't extend to her pupils, but they look OK. There is some shadow area on the left (her left) side of her face and under her chin which does help create a little illusion of depth, but the lighting on her face is really quite flat. The shadows have an orange cast to them. Her skin also has a little orange cast to it -- her arm more than her face, which also has some pink in it. Overall, her skin tone is off a little.

It would be better if the edge of what she is leaning against was vertical. Vertical and horizontal lines should be actually vertical or horizontal in your photograph. I don't like the "horizontal" line going into her face. A plain background would have worked better.

With her turned a full 90 degrees to the camera you always run into the problem of foreshortening. This is especially noticeable when the subject has a large area of skin showing (her arm). It is compounded by having it next to an edge of the photograph. It would also be better not to have her right arm showing in the bottom left.

Your advertising (Melissa Papaj Photography) is not part of the photograph. Your name could be properly placed on the mat. Any advertising would be better on the back of the photograph.

Nice shot,

Mark
