Rajat,

For me this photograph has some problems. The man on the left is out of focus and too dark. The scene on the right is too light (no detail in the light areas). The only person you can clearly see is the child? I don't understand the connection between the bearded man and the others. For me, there is no purpose to the photograph. Maybe it is a culture problem for me?

I like the idea, but I just don't understand its meaning.

The man in the middle, with his back to us, leaning forward, is doing something commonly seen here...blowing his nose. He has a kerchief in his right hand which he is not using... (his left hand is pinching his nose as he forces out the snot and with a jerky action the stuff will be directed onto the street.)

i agree with mark, the photo has some problem, ok. but it shows a scene of the tipical daily life, is very well composed, there are not useless elements, so i like. at the end i always prefear some tecnik problem than meanings problems....

Rajat me too agree with Mark that the image really bears no meaning for me as well, though I know this culture. The out of focus face on the left is in what way contributing to the composition is not clear. Also you can see that in larger view a discrepancy can be seen in the blurred wall - where the profile is pasted. Even the scene to the right, though can be understood, but lacks clarity. Hope you wont take my critique otherwise. Regards.

is not pasted. Original photograph as processed in the camera, uncropped and untouched in any other way, is attached. If you download the photograph you can check out the exif data...

I think when you gave the sepia effect by selecting the two parts separately (it looks like that) the problem tonal difference occurred. That is why it is better to work with a zoomed image. Regards.

Presenting a photographic image that tries to describe a street scene, an event or a documentary from another country which has their own culture difference, it does itself presents a challenge for reviewers to understand an image. Per example, if I want to present an image to viewers in Japan, China, or Mexico I will present a very different image because the culture difference.

Rajat, the memories of my running days when I use to blow into the streets as every long distance runner do, came to mind. Thank you for your honest opinions. Warm regards.

Jorge, I feel compelled to say that I have run eight marathons and countless miles, but never felt the compulsion to blow snot out my nose to the street. I guess it's different strokes for dif.........

Rajat, you've taken a bit of a beating on this image. While I see the point of some of the critics, I did not find myself responding in the same manner. I took the man on the left to be more of a metaphor for things we do not know and understand and the well lit and sharply focused portion to show that part which we think we clearly know and comprehend. The man on the left could be evil lurking around the next corner, although he does not seem very sinister. But he certainly can represent those things of which we have doubts, lack of information, and no clear ideas. I find the image quite good. Now about that snot part.....................:-D

Here you have a graphic comedy of comments.  I applaud you, Rajat with staying your ground.  To me you have a successful slice of life.  The proof is in all the notoriety and comments it has raised.
