There are a few, a very few, people on photo.net who always rate in

the 3-4 range in spite of the fact that nearly all subsequent ratings

will be 5 or more. These folks should, perhaps, take a close look at

their motivations, their effect on the p-net community and hopefully

modify their behavior.

For many of us ratings are not nearly as important as critiques and

comments.

However... Photo Net is a ratings-driven site and visibility is needed

to elicit comments and critiques.

If you can't contribute something positive then remain silent. Support

what you like and ignore that which you do not.

Dave,

I Really like this one. In fact I think in my opinion it is one of your best. Nice work. I like the use of the many elements that make up this photo. Congrats!! 7/7

Excellent shot, very nice colors and contrast, Dave , I think you have touched the point, in my opinion PN should avoid "Anonymous Raters" I guess these people rate just for fun and have no idea of what photography is, I prefer comments because I can learn from them and if I do not like a shot, I try to explain why and I do not hide under "anonymous raters". Well, just to finish, you have done an excellent work here, best regards from Mexico //Salvador

Your input is appreciated. I am pleased that this image is getting some comments at this early stage. It is also interesting that both the image and my remarks seem to have struck a chord. That is good.

Now for a bit of honesty... This is NOT a photo... It is composed, in part, of other images of mine, but is computer generated and rendered via ray-tracing. Everything except the images within are 3D models including the floor, rear wall, statue, magazine rack, picture frame and the transparent sphere. Even the three light sources are ray-traced.

With that in mind, this is still very applicable to learning the art and craft of photography. All of the elements of a studio shoot were also needed to create this image. Such things as camera position, placement of objects, selection of intensity, color and location of lights, lens choice and overall exposure balance. This took several hours of fine-tuning to bring it to this point. Just as in a 'real' studio shot. In this case I also had to digitally 'construct' each of the non-image items in the scene. The first ball had a positive refractive index and did not work to my satisfaction until I changed the index to negative, like water. Even the 'brass' grout in the floor took some fiddling.

Ray-tracing is an analog of conventional photography when used in this way. It is also a great 'Mental Exercise', which I sorely need!

Once again, Thank You for your remarks.

Dave

This is a wonderful composite. My initial reaction was simplicity with great use of color; then I started looking at it. This is a very exciting piece. And Bravo for your message to PN viewers who think that it is a game to give low scores without giving an honest critique of the work. I would ask these cowards put their names where their scores are. Most of us are here to learn and get and receive honest evaluations of our work. Becky

Nice light, colorplay, element of different perspective and the total composition is really unique. Great presentation. Rgds.

As to the "anonymous raters" I think, it wll be better not to pay attention to them! We all have seen many excellent works rated "anonymuosly" 3-3 or so. So what? The good work is a good work irrespective of ratings! Some individual/s most probbaly do this in order to cure their psychological complexes.

Remarkable. The combination of shapes colors and textures which are perfectly position! One of the best abstract pictures on photo.net. 10/10 out of 7/7.
