It's a bit late here in the States...so I might be brief in acknowledging the kind comments this photograph as garnered, but I do want to thank each of you!

While my portfolio clearly shows that I shoot a bit of "everything"...my true love is depicting scenes that have interesting, dramatic...provocative line and form. I'm not much of a "detail man". I have my share of "post card" waterfall and stream shots...and while I enjoy them...and have no hesitation to say so, despite the general feeling that such shots are nothing more than a cliche'...I feel that shots such as this one, capture emotion...and thought, and require more than satisfying the need for "eye candy" to offer one a gratifying viewing experience. I love the drama and the power of water...at it's intersection of light, thus this photograph. I'd love to do a series of these on canvas...enlarged to a size of perhaps...6' x 8'. Size doesn't always matter...but sometimes it does! Anyway....I feel that at any moment I'll start rambling incoherently...so I think I'll seek sleep.

Best regards....jg

I trust you had a peaceful night. I don't think you hold 'ratings' in great esteem but at times they too can convey thoughts and emotion.

Moody, yes; but my first impression was dreamy. Like the perpetual dream world of running water that can't be turned off... Excellent... Mike

Wow! Its like a dream. I hv seen many waterfall shot using slow shutter speed but never seen one with such light condition. Dark BG has enhanced the effect to many more times.

Rajat...thank you, and yes....I finally got some rest! As for the ratings...I try not to read too much into ratings...whether they be low or high, but as you said...they can convey something meaningful. I appreciate your comments and your having taken the time to visit!

Arup...I'm sure this type of shot has been done many times (nothing new under the sun)...but honestly i haven't come across similar shots very often. the "dream" aspect of the photo that you and Michael commented on...is exactly what I wanted to portray, so it is gratifying to hear you say this. I shot this so close to the waterfall that nothing else was in the frame except a vast amount of water flowing over boulders and rock ledges. I simply adjusted the exposure, contrast, and added a degree of "black" in PS, so that much of the unwanted detail was stripped away...leaving an emphasis on the silky flow of the water. I hope to begin providing more technical detail on subsequent photos for anyone that is interested . thanks for your kind words!

This is an amazing shot... The mood is priceless and the color tones are really striking... Fantastic composition of this shot and the light gives it softness and drama at the same time... Splendid work...

Best Regards, Jill

John,

You captured Burgess Falls at its best. You have a wonderful talent for waterfalls. I have seen Burgess Falls I thought at its best, but it is like seeing it for the first time. 7/7 Regards, Patsy

the photo doesn't show it Patsy...but i almost (literally) killed myself on the way down to the bottom of the falls. I'm sure you know how steep, rocky, and

"slippery when wet" that little trek is...and it was wet that day. but i survived to shoot another day.... :) thanks as always for your nice comments!

Steve, I'm only now ...finding your comments, and I offer a belated and sincere thank you!  As for how I found your shot...it's been so long ago now, that i don't really recall...but I'm glad I did.  I went back and looked at it again, and it's really a lovely shot.  Let's try to stay in touch, what say?  ...warm regards, John
