rarmstrong 0 Posted May 9, 2009 another northern wildflower, comments appreciated, thank you! Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted May 10, 2009 Richard, This is really beautiful. I've never seen these in real life. Flower books from the library have been of no help in my ability to identify many of my flower images but that's because the photos in the books are so terribly photographed that they are virtually unrecognizable. sumon_mukherjee 0 Posted May 10, 2009 Lovely flowers. A composition with beautiful tones and a revealing background. Best regards. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 10, 2009 Dick... Wonderful shot. I've never seen this flower before... is it in the Columbine family? Regardless, very well composed and presented... Mike Link to comment
vicenteconcha 8 Posted May 10, 2009 Beauty, color composition and a true wonder, I like the glitter of dew. Congratulations. Best wishes. Vicente. Link to comment

rarmstrong 0 Posted May 11, 2009 Thank you all for your very kind comments! I'm not sure if these are in the Columbine family... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dicentra_cucullaria I have these in the woods next to my house. This is the first year that I have seen them, although they are quite small and could be easily missed. It's fun to just walk around and look to see what's popping up in the Spring. This was a pleasant surprise. Mike, I don't think they are in the columbine family... http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/woodland/plants/wild_columbine.htm Best regards, Dick Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 11, 2009 Dick... Thanks for the research. I was just using a layman's eye and noting the upside down look and the protruding appendages above, all similar to the Columbine. A most attractive little flower... Thanks... Mike Link to comment
Alex 0 Posted May 14, 2009 Richard, that is a great composition and outstanding exposure. The details and texture are tremendous. Excellent job. Alex Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted May 14, 2009 Thank you again, Dr. Didi, Mike and Alex. I'm still pining for the 105mm f2.8 micro Nikkor and I wonder what this image would have been like with that lens...just wondering. Best regards, Dick Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted May 14, 2009 Richard, The image looks lovely as it is!! I'm pining for a wider angle prime lens. Very soon I'll have it and then for certain I will be pining for something else like a new camera body. The old one, though only a year old, could be my "back up". That is how I would justify it. LOL Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks, Kathy! I've been looking at the 105 mm micro Nikkor since last year. I think that I'll have to throw out some Father's Day hints:-) Have a good day! Dick Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted May 15, 2009 Wow! You've held out! I wonder if the Dutchman's Breeches might improve with a minor adjustment in lightness/contrast? It would be cheaper for now. Just a thought. Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted June 5, 2009 I agree with Kathy's last statement but a very nice rendition. I played with the PS CS2 shadow/highlight command to produce something different - not better but for your consideration. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted June 5, 2009 Thanks Kathy and Tony! Tony, your version does have a bit better "pop". This is an ongoing problem for me. My iMac monitor is very bright and very detailed. So, my originals can look "perfect" to me, sitting there in the dark on a 24" screen. But, then I put them up on another monitor and they look a bit flat. I've been reading a lot about printing and have done some slight experimenting. I need to calibrate my iMac monitor which may make a difference. This will probably not happen until fall. I'm off to my lake cabin this weekend...with camera and gear. I have no computer access there. I'll be there every weekend this Summer. Have a great day! Dick Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted June 5, 2009 I like Tony's edit a lot. Richard, I learned to shoot in RAW. Now it's your turn to learn monitor calibration. :O) Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted June 9, 2009 I like it, too, Kathy! I'm working on the monitor:-) Dick Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted June 9, 2009 Richard, For monitor calibration, the "default" settings work great! LOL Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted June 9, 2009 I tried that with printing tonight...you are correct:-) Link to comment
kathyb 54 Posted June 10, 2009 I just started a 9 week (1 night per week) photography class using ILLFORD b x w film. I'll shoot one 36 exposure roll each week. What a challenge! When the class ends in the beginning of August, I will be able to post some of the images here. I'm really psyched about it! Link to comment
