I like this image as well because I could be hiking tomorrow and easily walk right past this shot and not think twice about it - way to take something seemingly ordinary and make it extraordinary - makes me want to just go takes some random pictures in the back yard in hopes to find a great image :)

with all respect ...you're going off in a bad direction with that line of thinking... for the most part. i didn't get this shot by randomly aiming my camera into the woods. remember what i said about "seeing" the shot? you'll waste a lot of time shooting thousands of shots...hoping for one good one! ;) jg

Yes thanks, I am a full fledge member - to clarify my comment - I was applauding your for having the forsight to see then end result image as this - I would not have shot off all of the pics and hoped for the best, I would have perhaps rather just walked on by this shot...but I know exactly what you mean - I was joking about taking a multitude of shots in the backyard, thus the ":)" - I try to be as purposeful in my shots as possible.

Thanks

I agree with the earlier comment. Neither I would have noticed such a brilliant photo opportunity in such a nondescript every day scene. Your vision shows that a creative eye can make an impressionistic painting like scene out of thin air. Brilliant.

Ellery and Nabarun,  As so often happens...if you don't check almost daily for comments on photos posted for critique...you miss comments, as is the case here.  I certainly appreciate your responses and hope you both understand I was by no means ignoring either of you!

Ellery, I'm sorry I misunderstood your first comment...I didn't take enough time to read more closely or I would have understood.  Reading back over my response...let me retract a bit of what I said.  Although I believe that 'purposeful' shooting is a positive...I must admit that I've taken some completely random shots with perhaps a particular part of the shot intended to be the primary subject, but after uploading to PS I often find something within the shot that I totally overlooked, and has now become the 'new' focal point/subject.  Thanks for making me think...and rethink!

Regards,

John

Nabarun,  thank you for your kind comment.  i absolutely do believe that creativity is a vital part of the mix that results in a good photograph...but just as important is simply taking the time to "see".  I have to fight the tendency (as many photographers do) to move too quickly from place to place, subject to subject...rather than taking my time to appreciate and explore whatever scene is before me.  Quite often my time is limited, and that urge to make the most of the time that is available pushes one to accelarte the pace.  I keep having to remind myself that one really great shot is much better than a dozen shots that are just "o.k.".

Regards to you my friend,

John
