jgalyon 0 Posted May 1, 2009 Spring flowers are in full bloom in the Great Smokie Mountains. There are around 15 species of Trilium...and the white ones are literally blanketing the mountainsides. Hope you enjoy this one! Link to comment

GerrySiegel 868 Posted May 1, 2009 A lovely blossom. Spring in the Smokies is marvelous. That is where we honeymooned so many years ago. And where I discovered how beautiful are the Southern Appalachians. We tented out too...nice shot, great colors, vibrant, John. Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted May 1, 2009 Wonderful capture. I love seeing the pollen on the petal (even though that stuff causes me lots of problems!) Link to comment
gi11 0 Posted May 1, 2009 A beautiful photo of a beautiful flower with a beautiful angle. Beautiful! Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted May 2, 2009 To my old friends Mary, Gerry, and Liz...so good to hear from you! Thanks for the welcome back. Giuseppe and Radu...good to meet you and thanks for stopping by! I look forward to seeing some photos from each of you. Gerry...I spent a honeymoon in the Smokies as well. That marriage lasted seven years and ended in disaster, but that hasn't deterred me from my love of the area!!! LOL For those of you who might not be aware, the Smoky Mountains is home to the most diverse plant and animal habitat in North America, with more plant species than the whole of Europe. If you have the chance to visit...you owe it to yourself to do so! Should you get to come this way...I'll be glad to give you a guided tour! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 2, 2009 John... An excellent shot of this trillium. We manage about 3 trips a year to the Smokies and that is still not enough! Sadly, our trip last week to catch these flowers had to be canceled, but next April will find us back looking at these beauties ( as well as in October). Thanks for sharing.... Mike Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted May 2, 2009 Mike, thanks! I'm especially glad you stopped by, as I had been looking through your shots of the Smokies earlier in the week...your very good shots of the Smokies. Your Grotto Falls shots are splendid! Sorry you had to cancel your trip. As you're probably aware, the water table has been down for sometime...but not any more! We've had a good bit of rain and the streams are full for the first time in at least a year. Unfortunately, my last trip (a couple of weeks ago) was very brief and along with the fact that I missed early morning and later afternoon shooting...I dropped my tripod and broke one of the leg collars, so it was as though I wasn't intended to get good stream and waterfall pics. Hope to go back next week. The dogwood are just now opening up fully...and I'm dying to get some shots of their blossom laden limbs hanging over the water. Good to hear from you Mike! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted May 2, 2009 John... I'm sure it changes from year to year, but the dogwoods were magnificent last year on the Middle Prong at Tremont. A local photographer said it was the best she'd seen in years. Good luck on your trip... Mike Link to comment
sonneland 0 Posted May 4, 2009 John, the trilium is lovely, but would have to say you have me more interested in the Smokie mountains than flowers here, sounds a real enchanting place to be. all the best.......roger Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted May 4, 2009 Roger, Being a life-long Yank...I'm always uncertain as to how much my friends from around the world know about the area in which I live. Unfortunately, I must admit that I know relatively little about New Zealand...but I know enough that I've thought about moving there! Just curious...were you aware of the Smokies before I spoke of them? Link to comment

jgalyon 0 Posted May 4, 2009 Anne and Runar...a compliment from you is a compliment indeed! I just visited your portfolio and was nothing less than "blown away" by the beauty and the diversity of your work. Quickly put you on my "interesting persons" list! Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted May 5, 2009 Welcome back John. Lovely shot , nice light. I've not been in the smokey mountains during the spring for a few years now. Our trilliums up north are just starting to unfurl. Link to comment

Christal1664882414 0 Posted June 17, 2009 I'm so glad I clicked on this image because until I did I didn't realize you were from this part of the country. My husband and I have been to the Smokies many times, and it's one of our favorite parts of the country. We've never been in the spring, however, which one of these days we must do. Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy your fantastic captures of the place! This is a beauty! Link to comment
jgalyon 0 Posted June 27, 2009 Christal, Good to hear that you're enjoying my photos from Dixie! If I may ask, what part of the country are you from? If you get back to the Smokies and want to go out for a shoot...let us know. My wife and I are always looking for other couples to shoot with. regards...jg Link to comment
