Exhileration - Aperture Priority Mode Night Portrait

Here's is my recipe for this photo:

 

Canon 5D, Canon 24-105L, Canon 580EX flash, Aperture priority

mode,(for background exposure) 1/13s, F5.6, exp.comp: minus 1 and 2/3,

unobstructed horizon (Gulf of Mexico), low perspective, energetic subject.

 

The apparent shadow on the sky resulted from the rapidly moving

subject obscuring part of the sky during the 1/13 second exposure. Of

course, the brief duration of the flash froze the motion of the subject.

nice.. i love how flash will just freeze a moment like that.. nicely done :)

I forgot to mention focus was manual at the predetermined jumping point (a bump in the sand). Flash sync was second curtain.
