gib 0 Posted April 26, 2009 excellent shot, thanks for suggesting the visit yesterday, glad the rain held off, I did get soaked running from my car to the house Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted April 26, 2009 Thanks for the validation. Sorry I kept you so long at the coffee shop. Perhaps you'd still be dry. Had to wait in my driveway for about 5 min. before I could risk a dash to the front door. Again sometime? Best, LM. Link to comment
maurocarli 0 Posted May 2, 2009 I like it, becuase it does what IMHO a landscape shot should do: let the viewer "feel" the place potographed, perceive its essence. It's needless to say that it is the kind of image that would show its best if printed in a large format rather than shown at this small web size. Regards! Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 2, 2009 Nice of you to stop by. Yes, I agree, most landscapes are best viewed 'Larger' or best printed larger because most of the individual elements are quite small and the finer details underappreciated. I usually print to 6"x9" but sometimes to 12"x18" where this shot would shine. I've rarely, if ever, had a need to print larger. Best, LM. Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 6, 2009 Too hard to see in this web offering but these are Canada geese and they do tend to liven an otherwise sterile scene. I may not have taken this one without them. Best, LM. Link to comment
greg mccracken 13 Posted May 8, 2009 I liked the way my eyes first took in the foreground, then the geese, and later the church peeking out of the trees. Following that, my eyes scanned the meadows looking for any deer that might be half hidden. I also like the composition, placement of the geese, and level of sharpness. Thanks for sharing, Len! LenMarriott 9 Posted May 8, 2009 Thanks for the comments. Never considered that there might be deer peering out from the weeds. I guess the geese were the attention getters for me here. The only thing moving. Yeh, I liked the way the narrowing river kind of leads the eye right to the church building & I chose the tight crop at the top because the sky was too bland and boring. Keep this place in mind if we get to go out together sometime. Probably more interesting after it greens up a bit. Best, LM. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted May 16, 2009 A very nice scene, and the ducks are perfect, yes. Well composed, nice lead in, and good choice of panoramic format. My only concern is the dull foreground contrast. I guess, your eyes compensated this and you saw it different. Look @ the histogram of a selection of the foreground, then you see what I mean. No bright tones there. With a grad ND, you could improve contrast in-camera as you know, or you do that with PS (not perfect with 8bit jpeg, of course). Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted May 16, 2009 Good suggestion about the foreground contrast. It never occured to me to try to fine tune it but your suggestion shows me that was a mistake. I must pay more attention to those small but important details. Thanks for stopping by. Best, LM. Link to comment
