I had great difficulty optimising the photo using software, trying to bring

out the range of tones. Due to the high contrast in bright sunlight, it was

very difficult to achieve. Please suggest how to take photos in such a

situation. Thanks for any constructive criticism.

seems like you have almost two photos here and trying to match them. It is the impression I get. The photo on the right I like. The zones are on the low end V and lower but they are all "rich" (and I don't care much for over VI anyway). The one on the left has just about only two zones and not much luster -flat. I'd have trouble too fixing it. Perhaps focus attention on the photo on the right and exclude the left. I almost never shoot in sunlight because of this very problem you have. Sunlight in color landscapes works but very difficult to make work in B&W. My two shekels/cents

Samrat, I agree that 'high Noon' is not the ideal time for taking snaps. But the contrast can be reduced by adjustment of exposure and photoshop. I have tried. Is it acceptable to you?

Thank you all for your views on this photo. Amalda, I have photoshopped the image before posting it. You will notice that your version has less glare through reduction of contrast. However, I have also tried to preserve some of the details like the pattern of the woodwork above the man. In addition, the glass segment of the door has an interesting pattern brought on by the partial shade provided by the wooden bit above. I wanted to preserve those too.

Anyway, having conceeded that the photo was taken at "high noon", I should accept the limitations posed by harsh light.
