An elderly man stands, just 'being there' while the woman in red rushes

between where a bus has just let her off and the cross street where a

new bus will pick her up on a transfer and take her to her destination.

This is one of those glimpses of life that we see everyday that hold so much meaning and so easily overlooked. Nicely presented.

I was photographing the old man, with cane and placing him in relationship to the marked crosswalks, then the woman, right, crossed by quickly.

I shot two frames rapidly.

The instinct of 99% of photographers when something interrupts is to halt, then resume later. Mine is just the opposite; when there's an interruption, I start firing and hope for something nice in the unexpected, and here I was not disappointed.

This also looks very good desaturated and I had my choice of color or desaturation, but the woman's red top was an attention getter, so I went with color which is guaranteed to draw the eye.

Red has special characteristics, I think you know, and I wanted it to draw attention to her and help 'unbalance' the photograph in her favor and resolve it in her favor, since her face is not clearly in focus -- it's affected as to her by motion blur because she was crossing the frame fast.

I think the harsh lighting helps emphasize her rushed look, and that is one reason I chose this as well as her being 'off center' which helps bring the viewers' eyes into the photo.

Did I make the right choices?

This is sort of a new photo for me, but I am always just taking whatever I see, and this is what I saw that moment (and liked).

It is sufficiently complex and interesting I thought to post - not the world's great photo, but sufficiently capturing 'the moment' to make it worthwhile.

Let me know any furhter thoughts if you have them, OK, or feel free to comment on any other photos of mine.

Best wishes.

My take is that the woman (life) ruses by the elderly man, indifferent to the fragile and teporary hold we have in this world. Yes, I agree that the color is essential in the woman, and is missing in the man. It adds to their contrasting positions in life.

Rushes by this man, indifferent to him and to the fragile hold we have in this temporary space on this universe. Also, red contrasting with the near monochrome of the man -- two fine thoughts that need little comment or explanation by me except to say 'well said'.

I think this is closer to 'fine art' than many 'street photos' for reasons I will not try to explain.
