Lower Ngau Tau Kok estate is one of the oldest public housing estates

in HK and these food stalls are one of the more famous landmarks of

the area. The estate is scheduled to be torn down in May 2009 so it's

become quite a popular shooting spot.

This photo was originally shot in color (to show off the colorful pans of

food) but I converted to B&W because I felt it fit the old school feel of

the environment.

this are note easy photos, to do. Is really difficult to have the elemnts that make the atmosphere, and nothing external. It's really diffult to find a correct point of wiew, and shoot a good moment. here you did, the woman, and the 2 boys, are all doing something related to the food, that is the center of the scene. so this photo works really very well.

A good documentary shot. Your narrative reminds me of Vincent Yu's book 'Our home Shek Kip Mei.' If you haven't seen it, I suggest you have a look. I love how everyone is ignoring you. A truly great shot!

Thanks. It wasn't an easy task to stay invisible, given the size of my D700 and large Sigma 24-70 lens, so what I did was prefocus the camera and then kept it out of sight until an interesting scene like this came up. I probably took the shot in under 3s.
