Richard, Rob, Alexandra and Sonali: Your comments are very much appreciated. This was taken late yesterday afternoon. The light was fading quickly and had to set up quickly with my tripod. I know it is a bit subdued but I feel this represents the scene accurately and as a photographer, this is what i would want you to see. I resisted boosting colors and contrast and let us see how that rests with my friends here at PN.Best regards,

While the saturated image is excellent and would be quite acceptable; up against the natural shot I have to choose natural. A fine representation of the solidarity of earth and trees balanced with the fluid motion of the water... Mike

Thanks for providing invaluable insights and ratings _ I am with you re natural and that is why I chose to submit it. And while rates are not a very good indication of an image's merit, I would be willing to bet a fair amount that had I submitted the saturated one, it would not be sitting at a4.33/4.67 average. Best regards and thanks for stopping by

I like the saturated version, the golden light that you took this photo in can be very vivid. I could well imagine the late afternoon light producing the saturated colours of your 'colours boosted version'. I like your composition and the framing of the tiny island. A very nice image!

Tony... There's no predicting taste :-), but I helped the rating average some. I don't rate often, preferring the insight of comments, but this is far and above average... Mike

Jim: Thanks for the opinion - I could be swayed by the glitz of the extra color but I will stick - at least for now - with 'au naturel'.

Mike: your extra rating effort is appreciated. I try not to share poor or average shots here at PN.

It was a quite cool day here but I still have my window open and just heard some Canada geese honking away in their usual 'V' shaped flying pattern. I am sure they know that Spring is just around the corner even though our temperatures are in the late thirties.

Hi Tony! I looked at both versions and I like both, but with this particular shot I prefer the natural colours. My sister always says "just because we can, doesn't mean we should." What I really like in this one is the organic lines in the gnarled tree trunks and the fallen log. The twists and turns are interesting to look at. I like the way they frame the little golden island floating in the river. Very nice!

Composition and framing with sharp details and vibrant colors is impressive. I like the original post better over the color boost.

Great composition, your hard work has rendered a great image either way....I guess a lot has to do with whatever moniter the person is using also...and if calibrated properly. Love the detail in the bark fo the trees, and foreground. My eyes travel from the golden light that shimmers on the root(?) in foreground to the golden trees in the beautifully processed water.......great image Tony!!!

This deserves all the credit....good use of HDR for both the lake and the tree. It was a very good spot to shoot from ..giving you the complete contrast between these two clumps of trees....Regards

I don't really like HDR, so I won't give this any rating, but just want to comment on the very nice composition, especially the flowing water and the sunlight trees that come into focus so effectively.

Iftikhar, Gail, Keith and Sumon - I appreciate your comments and ratings. Even though technically I was able to faithfully capture and represent a scene that attracted my attention with the contrasts and the texture in the tree trunks, I suspect that the subject matter is missing something to make it more appealing. Best regards,

I really appreciate the time you spent in making a positive comment on this image. I noted that you don't like HDR and for quite a while I did not like HDR but when I started to work with Photomatix software, I realized that the result does not have to look like HDR and what you see in the original image here is as true to what I saw and experienced at that location. It was just a tool to help me control the high dynamic range. Give it a try - you might be surprised. Best regards
