I love the sky with the misty horizon, I find the very bright light at the bottom a little distracting but I don't know what the alterantives would be.

Great night shot, especially the way the lake pulls you into the sunset. Like Simon, I was at first distracted by the forground lights, but maybe they suggest night? You could try it with and without.

thanks a lot for your critiques. Your remarks are really encouraging and are appreciated. The truth about the lights is there was no way not to include them. As you can see, one of them is high on a pole and obstructing the lake view. I was on a 1200 ft hill but still not high enough to get past the lights. If I wanted to crop them out, I think I would have to kiss the shot good by :-)
