Bridge to Nowhere
Fog draping the Astoria-Megler Bridge in Astoria, Oregon.Interestingly, this was also once known as the "Bridge to Nowhere."In 1962 when it was first constructed, no one believed Washington and Oregon would ever recoup the $24 million that was spent to construct the bridge. Tolls, however, paid for the continuous truss bridge in 1993, much sooner than anticipated. It would become known as one of the most interesting bridges in the United States and a "must see" for tourists visiting Astoria, Oregon. The wooden poles you see in the foreground are old pilings that once supported old fish canneries along the Columbia River.
