This is a repost based on the kind suggestions of Michel Latendresse

that the first one posted was a bit flat. That image (still in this folder) is

based on two raw images combine in the HDR process which I still

think has potential. For the moment I decided to go back to a single

RAW image and mostly working with Capture NX 1.3 (supplied when I

purchased my D300), this is new result. Photoshop was used to convert

the color space and add my name. All opinions are valued. Thanks.

I like this a lot better, the rich natural brown hues are coming out of the stones giving them real life. It seems also to provide more depth and a sense of perspective. Excellent work my friend. Regards - michel

Great image Tony!! I love the textures and colors in rocks, and these certainly 'fit the bill' You've further complimented the image with almost co-ordinating color and tones in the reflections, snow and ice. Very pleasing to the eye.....your perserverence is rendering beautiful work!! (7/7)

A very attractive scene Tony..with the rock face and it's wonderful assortment of various shapes and sizes spread diagonally across the frame. It's good that the largest rock directs our eyes to the interesting and contrasting flow of ice in the rest of the shot... and because of the yellowed light here it gives one the impression that it's melting and that Spring is on its way...which it is:-)).......Regards

Tony-

First into my faves folder, then the critique. W-O-W. I love the color composition. The contrast created between the rock textures and the glassy smoothness of the water is simply rich. I also really like the geometric touch added by the patches of ice. There is a harmony and a sense of peace in this photo I find very appealing. I also like the triangular elements of the overall composition. 7/7 + on this one, my friend. (You've outdone yourself - and that's no April Fool).

All: It was one of those intriguing days - no longer winter and not yet spring. Where it was shady there was still lots of snow on the ground and the still waters at this location was still 90% snow-ice. It was sunny and if you were warm- blooded enough as in some cases, there were a few hardy souls in shorts, no shirt and running shoes throwng a football (oval shape) around. Birds were chirping and canada geese were honking. On one side of the St.Lawrence the river waters were flowing rapidly and on this side which leads to "boat locks" (i.e. the raising and lowering of boats between two levels of water) the water was calm. I actually photographed this location an hour earlier but concluded that I would wait closer to sunset before returning to get this shot.

Gail - thank you for your thoughts and the 7/7

Keith: You have identified many of the aspect which I found appealing. I thank you for your generous rating.

Sandra: thanks again for adding this to your favorites and also for your insightful comments. The variety and color of the rocks was the first thing that attracted me. Thanks for the very generous rating of 7/7.

Have a blessed day,

Hello Tony. Whatever you did looks very nice. There is real depth in the rocks, forground to background. I also like the tan color tones in the forground rock and how they flow nicely with the tones in the water. Good job. Cheers from Gary.

I will have to take some time to go look at your previous image, and then read those comments. However, I did want to say that I an thrilled with this version and think it is fantastic. I love all the different color tones and patterns that start at the bottom and then proceed to fade off into the top. Everything about the shot is perfect.

Congratulations on this marvelous work! I've seen both side-by-side (in a sense, 2 tabs) and this is much superior.
