What a great image Mark. From the thumbnail version it appeared to be an impressionistic version of a dog and when I view it at your largest view I still have the same feeling. I really love this shot and I am a cat-person who is saying this.

Thanks for the kind words. This is of the two new guys we got as rescues last week. He's very sweet as well as being very photogenic.

Veryy good portrait, with pleasant color tones, good sharpness and ... spark in the eyes which are also in focus! Will ad it to my favorites.

Excellent portrait - sharp and well color balanced, (whites can be so hard to get right!). The eyes, once you find them :) - add a lot to the photo.

David

I know a few people on this site that think portraits of dogs are better than portraits of people. I haven't alway related to this philosophy but in this case I might!

I'm probably one of those people my friend David is referring to as someone who thinks portraits of dogs are the equal of portraits of people.

As an example...this one is excellent. And as someone else mentioned, great job on the whites. Excellent colour, detail, and focus throughout.

But my highest compliment to you has nothing to do with this photo or photography in general. Instead, my highest compliments and admiration go to you for rescuing Cello and Harpo and giving them a loving home. I hope all of you have many years together.

Thanks for your kind words on the shots of both these guys. I was especially pleased with how this one turned out. And I share your feelings about pooch portraits.

Maestro, one of the two guys who came with us to Arizona (both he and Dante were rescues), died unexpectedly in late spring. We had to rescue two more to take up the huge hole it left in our lives. Harpo was on death row in the L.A. humane society when a small resuce group in Phoenix took him. Cello was found by another small rescue organization wandering around the streets of Mesa, starving and bedraggled. We got them both on the same day (both are pretty young) and now they are inseparable. They play all day long, with occasional breaks for food and affection. Some people think I'm a bit off, but they make me smile like little else does.

Excellent portrait! Those two little dark eyes behind all the hair are so sweet...

I'm not that keen on supernatural and around, but I'm sometimes tempted to see it in that very special relation you can notice between rescued dogs and their new buddy.
