lalit 0 Posted March 29, 2009 Almost like coming from Evil Dead or one of those (so called) scary movies...love it (your image). Wonderful display of intricate patterns by nature and I like the lighting you have chosen for this. Alternatively I am thinking that cropping probably 3 to 5% at top and bottom might lead to more abstract nature of the image. But as such it is an image with a test that needs a real involvement...either from the point of "art" or "nature". Regards +Lalit Link to comment
hopsage 0 Posted March 29, 2009 This and its older sibling, "Life Among Death" (http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7133375) represent a very compelling subject: the intricate, ghostly forms of Artemesia tridentata, and the way this is brought into such stark relief after the plant dies. Your presentation in both is also quite unusual and arresting, with a somewhat exaggerated contrast between the dead sagebrush wood and living flowers against the near-black background. Do you do anything special to obtain this sort of contrast? I'm pretty sure it would be near-impossible to pull off with film, even Velvia. Link to comment
dallalb 0 Posted March 30, 2009 Wonderful low-key capture! This shot has an inner tension: it's the struggle of life against the twisted hands of the death.Composition, light, DOF... Everything works here for me.Regards, Alberto. Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 30, 2009 John, I had some great diffused light for the shot and intentionally underexposed the RAW about 1.5 stops, which emphasized the highlights. I made a curve adjustment for the highlights and did a small amount of dodging and burning the highlights and midtones respectively. Link to comment
vincentfavre 2 Posted June 23, 2009 I don't know if it means something in english, but this word comes to me when I saw this shot :) Vincent Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted January 28, 2010 Trying to imagine this in print - it may be just perfect but on my monitor I would like to suggest a slight mid-range contrast boost. Just my opinion! All the very best, Link to comment
