whydangle 0 Posted March 24, 2009 Here is my take on a very familiar natural icon of the U.S. It is still early in the valley for spring green and wildflowers, but warmer than usual temps have opened the floodgates to the surrounding waterfalls. While it is early in the valley, the Merced River Canyon a few miles down from the valley is carpeted with Poppies. This display was unlike anything I have ever seen, the canyon walls on the north side were covered from river level to the summit for several miles. I would recommend trying to catch this display, but don't expect it to be easily photographed. Thanks for looking and make sure to click the image for a Larger preview! Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted March 25, 2009 Mark... A grand view that I never get tired of seeing. Again, I love the naturalness and lack of pretension in your presentation. Beautiful scene and detail... Mike Link to comment

hopsage 0 Posted March 25, 2009 Outstanding work, and I don't care a bit how many images have been made from this spot. You've rendered some lovely light, perfect shadow to highlight clarity, and an excellent sense of space. You got in a nice bit of subtlety, too, by making sure that none of the tree tops break the line of the background cliffs. Little touches like that can make the difference between passable compositions and great ones. Now you did make some images of that poppy bloom, right? Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Fabulous composition, I love how the waterfall fills the gap in the trees but echoes their shape perfectly. Quality. Simon Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Hussein, Leo, Mike, Gunnar. Dr. Didi, John, Tony and Simon. While I would consider this fairly straightforward, anything rendered with proper exposure and focus from Yosemite will look good. It is a magnificent location. The next morning the sky was cloudless, so the resulting images were less than successful. John, I did indeed take a few shots in the canyon, but it is very difficult to convey the sheer volume and expanse of the wildflowers when you are shooting up the canyon walls. I will post it soon! jeff.grant 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Mark, as others have already said, this is excellent, beautifully composed and processed. I think, however, that it could be improved by cropping the leftmost tree out. I have been fiddling with it, and it just seems stronger that way to me. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted March 27, 2009 I think there is a strong argument for cropping both the further most left and right trees and making this a square format. I have shot 35mm forever, and I can't get my eyes to see like a Hassi shooter. Thanks for that thought! Link to comment
rekaras 0 Posted March 27, 2009 A powerful, beautiful capture. You've got just about everything in here. Several subtle areas of light, detail throuout, just enough blue sky accented with delicate cloud formation and the grandeur of nature's element so well seen and composed. Kudos rek. Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted March 28, 2009 Wow. Looks like you had perfect photography weather for your recent trip. Wish I had been there. Can't wait for my next trip to Yosemite Valley. Beautiful capture and not the norm of the falls...RAY Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted March 29, 2009 Thanks Richard and Ray. Yes, we had wonderful weather, our time near San Fran was excellent. Link to comment
harrylichtman 0 Posted March 30, 2009 Mark- I would agree with the right and left tree crop. The delicate details in the near and foliage is superb, and your handling of the geens/yellows appears right on. I guess I'm surprised with the lack of snow in the image, as I've been hearing about all this recent snow in the Sierras. Maybe warm in the valley. I've enjoyed your recent postings, just haven't gotten around to commenting. Take it easy, Harry Link to comment
