marcadamus 1 Posted March 23, 2009 .....and the log across the falls is finally gone. This is what it looked like after very heavy rains last week. Link to comment
melloncollie 0 Posted March 23, 2009 this was indeed an optimal lightning for this scene, but not easy to expose properly, but you got it. magical place, really outstanding photo. Link to comment
paolo de faveri 1 Posted March 23, 2009 Hey Marc, fantastic light you got here, an amazing image for sure. I particularly like the rays of light visible in the spray beneath the fall. It looks like this was taken from a very low pov, did you get soaked? :-) Cheers, Paolo Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 23, 2009 Yes, very nearly waist deep in the water here. Thanks. Link to comment
mcollier 0 Posted March 23, 2009 Beautiful light, magical atmosphere. A brilliant capture. I love the pov. Link to comment

bruslee1 0 Posted March 24, 2009 Beautiful version of this popular shot. The mist really gives it a nice atmosphere. I'm glad the log is finally gone. Good to have you back on Photo.net.......I find your work very inspirational. Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted March 24, 2009 Superb image Marc! Love that soft light you captured in this shot. What's the 12 years reference? Excellent work! All the best,Neil Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted March 24, 2009 Perfect! Beautiful shot, but.... I'll miss the log, it was such an icon of frustration for so many photographers :-)... Thanks for sharing this wonderful scene... Mike Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 24, 2009 Neil, a huge log fell across these falls in 1997, blocking the view. Thanks for commenting. Link to comment
ryan_dyar 0 Posted March 25, 2009 You have really outdone yourself. I've never seen Punchbowl presented in such an elegantly atmospheric way. The light plays off of every element in the scene and makes this a completely new and fresh looking image from a familiar view. Well done man! Link to comment
lliebl 5 Posted March 25, 2009 You found and captured paradise. A stunning scene. Well done! Regards, Linda Link to comment
arildheitmann 0 Posted March 25, 2009 it has a nice softness to it that appeals to me....very nice... Link to comment
alextremps 0 Posted March 25, 2009 amazing, seems a landscape out a fairy tale. maybe the left rocks are to much important in the photo, but the details on leaves, grass and water are amazing. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted March 26, 2009 Wonderful light. I'm intrigued by the title -- I assume this was taken 12 years ago (hence the absence of the log, unless you had a chainsaw as part of your equipment on this trip), yet I know you weren't using the 1DsMk3 then. A minor mystery to me, and a beautiful image for everyone. I think the signature to your technical work is how the shadow areas are handled -- no one else does it better. Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 26, 2009 Stephen, the title is a reference to how long the log was there (1997-2009). It washed out this spring at long last! Thanks for the comment. Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted March 26, 2009 Beautiful light and colour. Did you blend exposures to get just the right amount of shadow detail? Simon Link to comment
marcadamus 1 Posted March 26, 2009 No blending here, Simon. Everything was pretty well within range of my RAW capabilities. I did use my field technique, blowing on the lens to add a bit of condensation at the end of the exposure, which emphasizes the dreamy look and feel to this one. It can also make for a more balanced look to the exposure. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted March 27, 2009 I hadn't heard -- that's good news that the log is gone. Now if only the same thing can happen at Sol Duc Falls in the Olympics. (I'm all for natural processes, but when they mess up really good photo sites, then I hope they're short-lived.) Link to comment
seungkyelee 0 Posted March 27, 2009 Hi Marc. A very atmospheric image with gorgeous light. I love the falling water and the water on the right really enhances the experience of light here. At first it was a little surprising, this image, thinking about your signature. No foreground objects I mean. Nothing negative, only different. And as an individual image it`s outstanding, simply put! Link to comment
