jerrymat 5 Posted March 26, 2009 The controversial statue of Leif Erikson (spelling differs with different experts) as exhibited in Seattle in 1962, dedicated during the world's fair on Norway Day. Leif never actually visited Seattle but did land on the eastern coast of North America about a thousand years before the Italian who is credited with "discovering" the Americas. Many Seattle residents are of Scandinavian descent and I proudly claim three grandparents myself. Leif has been moved since - in the remodeling of the boat moorage area where he was first placed, but he still proudly receives the daily tribute of the seagulls. Link to comment
