Un abbraccioDiego Link to comment
wieslawmamon 0 Posted March 21, 2009 very well observed scene, the glamour of advertising contrasts well with the reality here, so does the lively and optimistic color of the left part with the nearly monochromatic right. Creative and effective work. With best regards -wm Link to comment
mark_q 0 Posted March 21, 2009 Along the compositional merits here does appeal me the association that cast shadow on right being like a dark cloud, seen on cartoons, casting misfortune over this man likely begging here. On the sunny side of the street but still out of luck. He's not sitting on the ground like those many begging women from East-Europe, who have appeared on the streets of Helsinki recently... giuseppe_pasquali 0 Posted March 23, 2009 many thanks for your comments and ratings. Diego I agree with you when you say you do not like beggars photos: sometimes it seems like an intrusion, doesn't it? But this time the contrast was so strong and story-telling that I had to ask permission and shoot. It's my opinion that this shot is "different" in some ways from others already seen: the dignified posture of this unlucky man, the strong advertising at his back and the grim shadow of the lamp "say" something, and doing so they - hopfully - convey to our viewers a message. This was my intention. Exploring poverty, misfits and other dark sides of this crazy world we live in could be pure voyeurism or self-celebration in case of absence of a message. Impact alone cannot make a photo good, you also need meaning. We should always keep our eyes open and mind alert to succeed in composing shots that combine several elements in such a way they bring a new perspective on an already seen scene.Sorry for this long self-commentary, hope I didn't bored you, thank you again, Giuseppe Link to comment
