laurent-paul 1 Posted March 20, 2009 Another of your excellent portraits ! Perfect composition, and the use of your dof with your lighting is creating an incredibly strong narrative which is as well as open to all kind of interpretations. *edit ... >> changed an old "but" into "and" ^^ Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,777 Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks Laurent. As usual, I wasn't thinking. I shoud have gotten the backround a little more in focus. I appreciate you stoping by. Link to comment
laurent-paul 1 Posted March 20, 2009 honestly, I believe that the photo would be less powerfull if the background were more in focus Link to comment

laurent-paul 1 Posted March 23, 2009 Sometimes I believe that "not thinking" may be the best way to turn a photo into art. What I like very much in this portrait is the expression of the man, because it is a bit difficult to be sure about what this expression really is : we need to use our imagination. And then we start to notice something is happening in the background. a woman sitting in a sofa. Is she reading ? is she working, does she have a baby in her arms ? nothing certain here, and that can only reinforce the hidden part of the whole story, completely in balance with the intense feeling of the man, feeling that he is hiding from us. Mike Marcotte 49,777 Posted March 24, 2009 I know what you mean. Many times I've looked at a photo I've taken & couldn't remember what all was in the frame. Sometimes you just go with what you've got & it works out. Also I want to thank you for your input on this. I actually like this picture. Link to comment

bram_knippenberg 0 Posted August 3, 2009 I like the image (expression, composition, out of focus woman and child in the background).Self portrait? Only drawback is the reflection in the mirror growing from the head. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,777 Posted August 5, 2009 Yeah, that mirror. I hadn't noticed it. No that's not a self portrait, that's actually my son. I guess in a way it IS a self portrait. Thanks for stopping by & welcome to Photo.net. Link to comment
