vancouverphotographer 1 Posted March 19, 2009 Great portrait of these women with eye popping colours - I always have problems getting people in group shots like this sharp ..... what settings did you use and where did you put the focus, thanks. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted March 19, 2009 TQ Ali. Dale, in a group always focus on the model in the center and use F8 or smaller aperture, depending on how much BG blur you want. A fast speed 1/250 or more is better if you don't use a tripod. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 19, 2009 The ladies are very attractive, their garments are lovely, and somehow they are able to look composed and graceful sitting on quite shallow steps. You have one small problem--two heads are lined up in back on the right. The hands of the girl in royal blue seem double-jointed and I suppose she must be a traditional dancer. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted March 20, 2009 Hi Charles, you surely can nit-pick. I didn't even realized that only two models were out of alignment and one of the model hands was clasped in an unusual way. (It looks good in the original large frame) Since this was a street shot off the cuff and I'm not the official photographer I guess I managed quite OK. I did shoot many times and enjoyed the privilege accorded. Be assured it'll be much better if it was a professional assignment. Link to comment
jmarcraveau 0 Posted March 20, 2009 Beautiful image. Very nice colors with a great background. Thanks also for giving some technical tips. Regards, Jean-Marc Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 20, 2009 Alec, I assume that you posted this picture not because it's perfect and you want your fanny patted, but because, as good as you are, you want honest criticism in order to improve. One girl does indeed have hands like those of a classical Balinese dancer, but it's a little narrow to say that's a flaw. The group as a whole is well composed, except for the head-on-head at the back. Whether that is a flaw or a picked nit depends on whether you are a pretty good photographer or a very good one. That's your call. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted March 20, 2009 I've browsed your gallery, expected more after reading your comments - but nothing much to say...... Link to comment
vadima 0 Posted March 21, 2009 What I find most unusual about this image is how static these ladies appear and how static are their smiles. This almost disappealed me on a first glance, but the longer I look the more captivating this aspect becomes. Thank you, Alec, for posting such a unique image. Oh, and sinse everyone is so picky on this one, I would like to sugegst a slightly tighter crop on the sides and the top. Best regards, Vadim Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted March 21, 2009 Alec, you got a bevy of beauties in rainbow colours. Link to comment
vickifrance 0 Posted September 16, 2009 It seems to me that there are a couple different cameras shooting their picture at the same time and they were a bit confused as to which one to look at. I wish you had all their attention focused on your camera looking straight into the lens. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 16, 2009 It's very reasonable to suggest that a common focus of attention would help to unify this picture, and I've viewed Vicki's portfolio, of which there's much to say and little more to expect. But this is still a very nice picture (pat, pat). ;-) Link to comment
