You do manage to consistently get close to these little guys. Very nice detail and pose. Good PP also. 7/6

Hi Richard: Great shot. Focus and detail are super. I unloaded this lens in one day, but you have done quite well with it. Nice job ... Ray.

Thank you all very much for the kind comments!

Monte, I am amazed at how close that I have been able to get to these birds. Sometimes they land too close for me to focus the lens. All I have to do is stand very still.

Ray, I really struggled with the decision to purchase this lens. What tipped my decision was a direct e-mail from another member who owns the lens, has some great shots that he directed me to view and gave me some solid advice about using it. It has very good optics and I wanted a zoom without having to spend $5000 for the 200-400mm VR(which I would very much like to have). I didn't want to spend close to $1000 for a third party lens and be disappointed. So far, I like it and I'm willing to live with the slow AF and the fact that it is not a constant f4. It is my first long lens for my D300 and I think that my experience will help me with my future lens purchasing decisions.

Chris, Thank you in particular(not discounting all of the talent represented in these comments), but I've learned a tremendous amount from viewing your work. One thing for sure...shoot at the lowest iso possible to eliminate ALL of the noise and pay very close attention to the background, not just the primary subject, although the details are important in every aspect of the image.

I am learning a lot, thanks to all of you and many more members of PN. I am truly honored by your comments.

Best regards,

Dick
