Experimenting with new - new for me, of course :-) - techniques

enabling me to go beyond the magic hour boundaries and still being

able to convey a good deal of mood and drama. I took this picture at

4PM - broad daylight therefore - and directly aiming the lens to the

sun. Not exactly what it is considered an ideal setting, usually.

I used a strong neutral density filter (B+W 106, 64x) in order to

record some motion in the receding waves, and to even up the

brightness of the sky I also used a GND with a graduation of 8x.

The resulting exposure setting was 0.4" @f16.

I'm quite happy of what I came out with, but of course I'd love to

hear what you think about it. Your comments and critiques are highly

appreciated.

Details: Eos 50D, Tokina ATX-Pro 12-24 f4 @14mm, B+W 106 ND (6 stops),

GND 8x (3 stops), tripod. 0,4" f16 Iso 100

A dramatic and unique shot. As you say, out of your norm, but as with all your work it is presented flawlessly... excellent... Mike

wonderful and strange. It is classical take, but by using the complete symmetry and a square format (my favourite) and the touch of colour in the sky in the predominatelly colorless image - it becomes an original master piece. cheers Jana

I think what you've done is great -- there's a lot going on here (water motion, waves, cloud formations, color), and all of it is interesting, and therefore an image that catches the eye.
