I am doing a series on this particular oak tree; and I didn't even know it. It is not the most gnarled or the most pristine, it just has good location. I drove thirty miles in a frenzy to catch it silhouetted against a dramatic pastel sunset. I arrived at the very moment the sky intensified. Ten minutes of shooting and it was over. Turn around and drive back home. What a nut I am!

Mark, youhave been producing quite a beautiful work this year. I enjoyed this shot. The background colors and silhoutted tree and the FG flowers. since it is so beautiful, I am very curious if the image could be improved with slightly increasing saturation of the yellows and also in general luminance of the foreground. I think that might help it make more attractive (I think Light room fill light could be useful here)

Best, +Lalit

Mark... Wow, you may have had more dramatic skies in the past, but very few this serene and pleasing. The level of detail in your new oak friend is spectacular and the composition is just right. I like Lalit's suggestion, but ony a slight increase; it is, afterall, after sunset. An overall stunner... thanks for sharing... Mike

Thanks Lalit and Mike for the suggestion. I was being cautious not to open up the foreground too much and give it an unnatural appearance. Guess I was being overly cautious. I have uploaded a new version. It is a substantial improvement and appears more like I remember the scene!

Hey Mark,

The band is perfectly placed here. Fabulous color and composition. I love it.

I was thinking of telling about this hwy with a bunch of wildflowers near you but I never got around to contacting you until I posted a similar tree photo and someone here provided me w/ a link to this photo. I was thinking you already knew. I like yours better.

This is just right! A really magnificent composition and exposure. I am coming up tomorrow (Saturday) and spend an afternoon and evening on Bear Mountain. Hopefully, a cloud or two will drift through during the magic hour, and the sneaky snakes will be on their best behavior (albeit, I will wear jeans and boots, of course). Beautiful photograph, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Mark, you're really on a roll. Your latest series of images are quite beautiful. That oak is well worth the trip.

Thanks Steve, Chris, Hamed and Jeff. The extra shooting I have been doing lately has been squeezed in between many other things going on. I get about 5 to 6 hours of sleep a night and feel like I am burning the candle from both ends. This time of year you have to get after it, because summer comes and shooting isn't worth a damn once the landscape dries up!!

I've had a hectic and stress-filled day, and this is the perfect antidote! This is outrageously beautiful, and I'll be anxious to see more of your series on this lone oak tree. But it's late here now, and I'm off to bed.

Wow, Mark, wow. Great colours all over this! The mustard-yellow flowers and the pink clouds are a nice combination and the tree couldn't be a nicer subject.

This so peaceful and rejuvenating an image! I love it.

Thanks Ian and Patsy. I have to apologize to Ian for not acknowledging his comment earlier, like way over-do. Since I took this photo, the world has been on speed dial and I am having trouble slowing things. I do so much appreciate the warm responses. Patsy, teaching would be fun and I have not ventured in that direction, probably because I never felt ready. I probably know more than I think!
