Hi Brad --

I really like this photo a lot. Very moody scene, the raven in silhouette (that's as it appears on my monitors), with that incredible eye, Nice placement of the subject in the frame.

Maybe lighten the eye a bit; but that may not be an improvement. I think this image is very good.

Hi Brad --

It's kent again. I showed this to my son, who's an E.A. Poe fan. He also likes it (higher praise than he gives my images). He said, "That's a photo I'd actually put on my wall." He's NEVER said that about any of my pictures.

Thought you'd like to know.

Hi Kent,

Thanks for visiting! Your point is very valid always. I brightened the eye a bit and uploaded the revised one. Click the image once, then you may see the improved image. It looks better.

By the way, I am afraid this bird is not a raven. I don't know its name but this is much smaller, and thinner, than a raven... and has distinctly different eye. I'll post another image of this bird on this thread for your reference.

Anyway it's an honor to hear that your son would love to put this picture on his wall. Please email me your mailing address. I will forward one letter-size print as a gift to your son.

Warmest regards,

Brad

Photo taken in California, and I'm not as familiar with western birds. I would guess Great-Tailed Grackle. About the size of a crow?

Thanks for the offer of a printable image. He'll be thrilled. I'll email you my email addy.

These are really remarkable images.

Very striking, Brad - the pose, the soft background and then that EYE under the brow. The image turns my stomach too, with that suggestion of foreboding. Toast

Your photo has a very distinct mood. The bird has a powerful, menacing presents.

I might suggest slightly less contrast so that you can make out more detail in the body and feathers of the bird.

Amazing image with such mystery and mood; Edgar Allen Poe would be proud of this image! I would hang this one on my wall! Excellent work! Thank you for sharing. :)

Having researched many birds guides and reference books, I am now pretty sure that this bird is a male great-tailed grackle.
