Okay, it was taken from a bus but it is one of the more entertaining

billboards I've seen. Perhaps a viewer who reads Farsi could explain

what the subject matter is.

Hi Jim, It is a Cinema/Movie theater, The poster is advertising a very popular comic film by the name of “Dah Raghami” which means literally “Ten Digits”. The story of the film in which interestingly a very expensive Persian carpet :-) is stolen by a incompetent thief (the laughing man on the left of the poster) from a museum ….”Ten digits” is the value of the stolen carpet in Iranian currency Tumans (or 10 plus 10 zeros) (in Iranian Rials as you may know it would be eleven digits). If you look closely you will recognize the numeral ‘10’on the poster in red. On the top in blue (Persian/Farsi script) is written “Cinema Bahman” or “Bahman’s Cinema” the name of the cinema/ movie theater. (The film is very funny indeed.) I hope now it's more clear for people viewing this image…. I like this shot, interesting that your eye was drawn to this….as you say you shot the image from a bus I can tell by the little reflections. In any case a good shot…. Best Regards (hope you visit Iran again sometimes, your pictures are very interesting and nice and be sure you have many friends here :-))

Hi Dara,

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I had been thinking it was some sort of political message but couldn't figure out what it could possibly be about. Now that I know it is a film it all makes sense.

I've organized two tours to Iran and Central Asia in the past four years and I'm trying to make it an annual event. Hope to be back again this fall. You can see journals and more photos at: www.mytripjournal.com/gungajim or http://www.mytripjournal.com/CentalAsianCaravanAxisOfEvil2

There will be a lot more Iranian material from my 2008 visit posted in about two weeks.

Cheers, Jim
