For a 2 wk. period in the Summer of 1989, in Banff, Alberta, it was sunny

and in the 80's nearly every day. My 2 children and I were fortunate to enjoy

those 2 wks. with my Brother and his family. We'd just done the Mt.

Rundle hike....Shauna was just cracking open a 'cool one' when her Uncle

decided to do what Uncles' do best. One of my Best vacations....must do it

again REALLY soon!

I remember my trip from Banff up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper as if it were yesterday. Photographer's heaven! The expression you caught tells it all!!

Thank you all so much for your kind remarks....I was using my Canon G1....cost a mere fortune for all the negatives to be processed....(Digital has its advantages)...but Shauna's expression in this photo was so 'her'.....and is one of my fav's...so many friends told me back in '89 that I should have sent it to Pepsi....perhaps I should have...but the 'joy' on her face was worth more than 'anything'.....tnks again...Gail

Gail-

Great "street shot portrait" - this is one of those instances in which the overexposure of the shirt neckline adds to the photo by taking away unnecessary detail and replacing it with an artistic effect that lets the viewer concentrate on the girl and the drink. The only thing that bothers me is the blue line of light from the PS light effects that cuts horizontally across her forehead. Because it is so perfectly horizontal, I think it takes a little bit away from the photo. It reminds me of my first Apple laptop when the screen started to fail and I got brightly colored lines cutting down the screen. I like the light effects you used- just wish that bright blue beam could have angled downward to the left of the blue ray that bounces off the can. It's a creative, eye-catching photo nonetheless.

Thank you for your comments......I understand what you mean by the PS light Sandra....not quite 'great' at my effects yet...but will keep on 'keeping on"!

Sure does....kinda funny....a lot of the music they're playing today is some of my fav's from the 80's...at least that's when my age group had the most fun....could even go out with my daughter dancing and have a bit of a 'good time'....many happy moments during those years. Thanks for reminding me!!

I have to apologise...this was not the Mt. Rundle Hike.....we never would have managed that one...this was Sullpher Mountain...a much more gentle hike...sorry for the mistake....Gail

This is a Pepsi product placement spoof right? Or maybe a very sly but laconic parody of Cindy Sherman's work?

At least a little rye humor - I mean wry humor.

No?

Sorry no bells and whistles today.

This is non of what you have suggested. It is simply a shot of my daughter, very hot and thirsty after a hike up a mountain trail in Banff. I just happened to aim my camera at her while she was taking a drink from her favorite 'pop'; my brother who took us on the hike said something to make her laugh, hoping to see her have an unfortunate accident with a mouth full of pop.

That's it, no real intentions here. The only attempt at what you may call wry humour was perhaps my Title. I had scanned the Photo, as it was one of my favorites of my daughter, taken in the summer of 1989.  My children and I had experienced a very traumatic few years during my first marriage. During that time they 'suffered' as all children do. Many tears shed, sleepless nights and troubled days.

I had decided to take them on this trip to see some of the beauty of Canada, visit with my brother and his family, and it was such a joy to see my daughter Shauna, finally SMILE again,  and enjoy being a young teenager.

I don't mind if there are no bells or whistles, or whatever you think I may have tried to do. It simply is a 'joyful' moment, and nothing much is going to 'spoil' that for me.

Warm regards, Gail
