Very nice image, Richard. Good position of the redpoll. Perhaps the light out of focus twig in the lower right could be burned down a bit? I really like the background which emphasizes the sharpness of your image.

 

There is one urgent question, however: Is the bird a common or a hoary redpoll? From what I can see of the undertail coverts, I'd say Hoary. (I raise this question for fun, but also because you have both names attached to the image.)

Thank you, Kent! To be honest, I couldn't decide if this was a Common or a Hoary Redpoll. My wife thought Common so I changed the presentation name:-) I think your suggestion about the branch is correct.
