Another German Shorthair pup from a recent shoot on-site with the

breeder. This one had me immediately figured out, and had better things

to do. Thanks for visiting, and for feedback,

Great image and wonderful detail. The glancing eyes and the wet nose are perfect. Regards, Marc

I don't know how you got that expression, but it is great, like he is super intelligent. Also great detail and exposure.

Way too cool Matt. The whole series with these photogenic pups are a "how to" for pet studio photography. And definitely more fun than work. Regards, Bill

PS - Forgot to mention that this guy and "the look" remind me of the Vice Principal of my junior high whose office all the class clowns like me caught doing something really stupid were sent to.

That's sure nice of you to say, Lex. I'll confess that I have next to no experience in wooing publications when it comes to this sort of thing, and continue to bank up my work in anticipation of having a little more of a collection to present. When I've had things published, it was despite myself, rather than because of a deliberate effort. I suppose I should give in and start looking around for some advice on the practical matter of putting an image like this to work for me. Because "I love this shot!" and $3.50 will get me a cup of coffee, as they say.

My first reasonable target for something like this is probably a breed-specifc calendar, aimed at the German Shorthair people. But even if all... er, 50 people or so who might buy such a thing DO buy it, that may not be the best way to leverage the image and some of the others I've got from similar sessions. As my wife reminds me: I need to put down the camera, put down the web browser, and go talk to some people in the business. At some point I have to get over the "aw shucks, it's just me and my doggy pictures" thing - it doesn't serve anybody except my kind audience, here (and of course the people who seem to be wallpapering MySpace with some of my dog shots).

Thanks for the encouragement, Lex. I know it's more than just an attaboy, and I'll take it to heart.

Watching your images and reading the comments (especially under this one) all I can say is that I would seriously consider buying a dog from "your" store if these were displayed on your site!

Perhaps you should turn off the PC & start seriously listening to your wife :)

Very beautiful formal portrait! Lightning and that glimpse makes the photo really excellent!

Based in my years as an ad agency creative director and copywriter, this would make a great ad for a dog food company Matt. You have to squint to read the headline. Bill.

The expression on this puppy's face is priceless! Whenever I am able to get this expression in one of my cats I call it the "Whatchu talkin' 'bout, Willis?" face! Maybe I am dating myself...but if you ever saw that show, that was exactly the expression that young boy had whenever he posed that question to his brother! Very adorable and humorous photo; very well done too I might add! Thank you for sharing. :)

Doggone, another photo from which my original comments vanished during The Great Disappearing of 2009.  Hmm... well, I still like this photo and believe it has marketing potential.

Thanks again to all for the kind words.

Lex: I've actually started making some sales based on this image - it's a natural as an eye-catching piece when I show work at markets, to woo new clients. And it never fails to sell some high-end-y greeting cards. But I get your point: it lends itself to a more mass-market placement, ad-wise, etc. Must get that all in gear!
